EDITOR'S REVIEW
Arka Oda is a long-established cultural venue on Kadife Sokak, combining a café, bar and independent performance space in an old building. Calm by day, it becomes an alternative-music meeting place for concerts and DJ nights.
Independent and alternative sounds guide the program, with funk, dub, hip-hop and eclectic indie on different nights. Most weeks, live concerts take place upstairs on Sunday and Wednesday evenings; selected dates each month bring local and foreign underground DJs.
Inside an old mansion, dim lighting and a living-room warmth create an intimate feel. The upper floor hosts performances while garden and lounge spaces downstairs suit conversations. With no sign on the door, entering can feel like finding a hidden place.
A hybrid café, bar, concert venue and club: quiet café by day and live music or DJs by night. Occasional festivals, themed markets and screenings make it a cultural stop as well as somewhere to drink.
Mostly Kadıköy residents who follow independent music and are close to arts and culture, along with long-time regulars from the street. Local and foreign visitors curious about Istanbul’s alternative nightlife also discover it.
Kadife Sokak’s easy bohemian style suits jeans, T-shirt, boots or sneakers. There is no need to dress up; an outfit that expresses your own style fits Arka Oda’s informal character.
Arka Oda is a long-standing fixture of Kadıköy nightlife, known for its garden, dark dance floor, and DJ lineups ranging from electronic music to deep techno. You can enjoy a quieter seating area upstairs or immerse yourself in the music downstairs. The weekend crowds can make it difficult to get a drink or move around; bar staff sometimes overlook guests for extended periods. Inconsistent policies—such as the requirement for mixed-gender groups—and a harsh approach by security have caused frustration, particularly among groups of men. If the music lineup appeals to you, arriving early allows you to enjoy both the garden and the dance floor more comfortably.
