EDITOR'S REVIEW
Inside the historic Bomonti brewery, Babylon is a live performance venue that brings many genres together through a discovery-led program. It gives local projects and international touring artists equal room, moving comfortably between concerts, DJ sets, and special series. The Bomontiada courtyard makes socializing before and after shows part of the experience.
One of Istanbul's broadest-ranging stages hosts jazz, indie, alternative rock, electronic music, hip-hop, world music, reggae, and acoustic acts from Turkey and abroad. The weekly calendar changes completely: local and international bands often perform Wednesday through Saturday; DJ parties or club nights usually follow midnight on Friday and Saturday.
The restored brewery's high ceiling, exposed brick, and dark stage surround preserve its industrial character. In standing layouts, the crowd approaches across a broad open floor; overhead lighting rigs and a powerful sound system alter the room's color for each show.
Babylon is a multipurpose concert hall and live performance venue that introduces audiences to new sounds, alternative ideas and independent music.
Listeners of different ages following alternative music, electronics, jazz, and world-music programs.
Comfortable, flexible casual clothes are appropriate.
Located within Bomontiada, Babylon is one of Istanbul’s well-known event venues, recognized for its program of alternative local and international concerts, airy design, and overall sound and lighting infrastructure. While the ventilation is generally adequate on most nights, it can fall short during very crowded concerts. Issues such as inconsistent food and beverage quality, high prices, and the presence of broken glass on the floor have drawn criticism regarding safety. The lack of a clearly stated policy regarding the bag check—and the inconsistent enforcement of this rule—causes frustration. Reports indicate instances where event postponements were only discovered upon arrival at the door, and others where guests were asked to leave without explanation. Checking for program updates and familiarizing oneself with entry rules beforehand can help minimize surprises on the night of the concert.
