EDITOR'S REVIEW
On the Koşuyolu–Validebağ border, this intimate café stage hosts theatre and stand-up. It is an early example of a small alternative performance venue on Istanbul’s Asian side.
Music accompanies the openings and transitions of cabaret and comedy shows. The focus is theatre, cabaret, karaoke and interactive performances, rather than concerts or DJ sets. Check the current schedule as productions, casts and starting times vary.
Just 12 or 13 tables give the room a warm, quiet, thoughtful feel, with almost no distance between performers and audience.
A room-theatre and café-théâtre: a place for good coffee and conversation by day that becomes an intimate cabaret, comedy and theatre venue at night.
Arts-minded Koşuyolu and Kadıköy locals, regular theatregoers, couples who enjoy thoughtful performances and adults drawn to intimate comedy.
Understated casual or smart casual clothing suits its blend of neighborhood ease and theatre-going.
Cafe Theater Koşuyolu offers a unique theatrical experience through Metin Zakoğlu’s intimate staging style, which actively involves the audience in the performance. Productions such as Diary of a Madman (Bir Delinin Hatıra Defteri) and Lüküs Hayat Cabaret (Lüküs Hayat Kabaresi) have left a strong impression on many viewers, and the warmth of the small venue is widely appreciated. However, the interactive format does not suit everyone, and excessive audience chatter can sometimes break the flow of the performance. There are serious complaints regarding nights with low attendance, where the artist may act tensely, belittle the audience, abandon the show midway, or cancel the event at the last minute. It is advisable to confirm the schedule before heading there.
