EDITOR'S REVIEW
Dunia brings Turkish-language bar conversation and an English-language stand-up community together across several floors, making it one of Kadıköy’s more international small stages. Audience members can even sign up for an open mic the same night, making it a meeting point for emerging performers.
Alternative rock, indie and slower bar tracks play across the floors. The music stops for comedy and returns briefly in the breaks. Check the current calendar for Turkish and English stand-up and community events.
The floors of an older Kadıköy building have wood details, posters, dim yellow lights and seating nooks divided by curtains. Narrow stairs lead to a compact microphone space upstairs. The terrace and street tables offer more open space before shows.
An independent cultural bar using its three floors, terrace and small event room for Turkish- and English-language comedy, open mics and social gatherings. Standup Türkiye stages a show with a different international host each week.
Local and international fans of English-language stand-up, aspiring open-mic performers and groups seeking an international social scene on Kadife Sokak.
Everyday clothes fit Kadife Sokak’s informal bar scene. Wear comfortable shoes for the stairs and consider an extra layer if you plan to sit on the terrace.
Dunia is a multi-story bar that reflects Kadıköy’s alternative spirit through its sunlit terrace, mid-floor DJ events, and English-language comedy nights. Its signature cocktails, music selection, and relaxed crowd are frequently praised. However, serious criticisms include long waits for drinks on busy nights, poorly prepared cocktails, and discrepancies in the bill. Reports also mention the harsh attitude of some staff members toward foreigners or regarding interactions between guests. While the terrace and event schedule are strong points, it is advisable to keep a close eye on orders and the bill when the bar is crowded.

HIGHLIGHTS
Weekly English open mics, a multi-floor bar with terrace, links to international communities, a central Kadife Sokak address and a stage open to participants.
NOTE
Friday’s open mic is entirely in English, and seating may be upstairs. Call ahead about stair access or a smoke-free area. Buying a ticket alone does not secure a performance slot: aspiring comics must sign up at the door before the list fills.
