EDITOR'S REVIEW
Get to know the venue before you go
Galata Meyhanesi is regarded as a keeper of old Istanbul and Beyoğlu meyhane culture, distinguished by classic meze and its nostalgic wood-lined setting. Amid the bustle of Asmalımescit, it offers a consistent option for good food and quiet conversation with friends.

WHO IT SUITS
Is this venue right for you?
For guests who want to enjoy rakı and meze over long conversations with friends, able to hear one another as light Turkish art music plays. It is not designed around loud singalongs and dancing. It also appeals to groups who want to hear an old-style fasıl with live instruments, join in the songs and take part in dancing during celebrations such as birthdays.
HIGHLIGHTS
Highlights
Its longstanding commitment to the classic meyhane tradition is its main strength. Its central Asmalımescit location, historic building and consistent traditional meze also stand out.
NOTE
Before your visit
Public transport or a taxi is recommended because of traffic restrictions and difficult parking around İstiklal and Asmalımescit. The menu is built around traditional meze and hot starters, rather than modern fusion cuisine.
GETTING THERE
Getting to the venue
It is at Orhan Adlı Apaydın Sokak No:5 in Asmalı Mescit Mahallesi, between İstiklal and Meşrutiyet avenues. It is approximately a 3–5-minute walk from M2 Şişhane's İstiklal Caddesi or Kasımpaşa exit. The nostalgic tram to Tünel Square, followed by a short walk, is another way to get there.
