EDITOR'S REVIEW
Karga combines a bar, alternative music and the kargART programme in a historic multi-storey building on Kadife Street. It has long been one of Kadıköy's independent gathering places.
Expect post-punk, dark wave, grunge, trip-hop, ambient and experimental electronic music rather than mainstream pop. DJs draw on cult bands and darker selections from particular eras. The Kadıköy calendar includes regular themed DJ sets on different days of the week.
The bar occupies a historic, multi-storey wooden house on Kadife Street. Gothic interiors, maze-like rooms, wooden stairs, dim candlelight and a fireplace lit in winter give it the feel of a fantastical old tavern or hidden underground refuge.
The lower floors are used as a bar, while the upstairs kargART space hosts concerts, exhibitions, screenings and talks.
Listeners of alternative music, Kadıköy regulars and visitors following independent arts programmes.
Comfortable everyday clothes suit the evening atmosphere.
As one of Kadıköy’s long-established venues, Karga boasts a powerful atmosphere thanks to its historic building, dark and characterful décor, fireplace-equipped rooms, and multi-level layout. Regulars particularly appreciate the rock concerts, events, music selection, and garden area. It gets very crowded on weekends, making it difficult to find a seat; a weekday visit is better for a quieter experience. Cigarette smoke in indoor areas can be bothersome, and some visitors find the prices high. The service experience is inconsistent; while some find the staff friendly, others have encountered indifference or rude behavior. It is a stronger choice for those visiting for the atmosphere and events.

HIGHLIGHTS
Nearly 30 years of history, a memorable Gothic atmosphere in a historic wooden house, and a continuing commitment to art and subculture through independent projects such as karga magazine and mekânRT.
NOTE
Karga spans three floors of a nineteenth-century wooden building. Stairs connect the rooms with fireplaces, small upstairs corners and the basement bar. There is no lift, and moving between the divided floors can be difficult on busy nights. Guests who have trouble with stairs should ask about ground-floor seating in advance.
GETTING THERE
Walk to Karga on Kadife Street from Kadıköy metro or the ferry terminals. With no street parking or valet service, public transport is more convenient.
