EDITOR'S REVIEW

Get to know the venue before you go

Maxi Gala is a lively place beneath the historic Galata Bridge, where the classic ritual of rakı, fish and fasıl music plays out against a Golden Horn view. It is a quintessential under-the-bridge meyhane for those seeking loud entertainment rather than quiet conversation, who love singing with a fasıl ensemble and want a classic Istanbul experience.

WHO IT SUITS

Is this venue right for you?

A good choice for those who want to sing with the fasıl ensemble, clap along and celebrate fully in a large group beside the Golden Horn, rather than have a quiet fish dinner.

HIGHLIGHTS

Highlights

Its greatest strength is the sweeping view of the sea and historic peninsula from the Eminönü end of Galata Bridge. The central location and distinctive nostalgic, tourist-friendly atmosphere of an under-the-bridge restaurant add to its appeal.

NOTE

Before your visit

As is common among restaurants beneath Galata Bridge, staff may invite you inside at the door. To avoid a surprise bill, clearly confirm menu prices before sitting down or while ordering, particularly fish priced by weight and alcoholic drinks.

GETTING THERE

Getting to the venue

It is on the lower level of the historic Galata Bridge (shops EH-3-4), in Eminönü, Fatih. Take the Kabataş–Bağcılar T1 tram to Eminönü, use the Marmaray Sirkeci station, or arrive by ferry at the Eminönü piers, then use the stairs down to the bridge's lower level; the venue is an easy walk of a few minutes away.
