EDITOR'S REVIEW
Operating since 1999, Mektup is an established Beyoğlu venue devoted to Turkish folk songs. Its stage, acoustics and service support a roughly 150-seat setup; table position and proximity to the performers matter to the visit.
Live orchestras and singers perform Turkish folk songs throughout the night, with arabesk, fantasy-style and folk interpretations. The venue calls itself Turkey’s best folk-music stage. Acts such as Grup Çığ, Ali Peker and Sinan Gültekin appear on selected days, with music from evening until late.
Around 150 seats face the stage for a performance-focused night. Guests listen and sing along, becoming part of the evening.
A seated folk-music bar with drinks, singers, orchestras and guest artists, under the slogan about sorrow meeting celebration.
Adult friends and couples who enjoy folk music, arabesk and fantasy-style songs and like responding to performers; regular live-music followers.
Smart casual fits a folk bar: a dress or blouse and trousers, or a shirt and trousers, suit the stage-focused evening.
Mektup Sahnesi has a loyal following and offers enjoyable nights featuring live music and performances by various artists. There are positive reviews praising Mr. Hüseyin and the service team, as well as the warm atmosphere. However, feedback from foreign visitors frequently mentions issues such as not being provided with a menu, the inability to communicate in English, being assigned poor tables, and having items like meze, chips, nuts, and fruit brought to the table without being ordered. The fact that these items are added to the bill at a high cost—and that objections are met with a harsh response—has created trust issues. Those wishing to enjoy the music should immediately question any item placed on their table and avoid ordering without seeing the menu.
