EDITOR'S REVIEW
TuzBiber’s Aylak program brings a wide range of Turkish- and English-language stand-up to one intimate bar stage. Its changing calendar includes open mics, six-comedian bills, solo sets, drag comedy and 11 p.m. shows, mixing emerging acts with curated club nights.
Aylak’s regular bar playlist favors rock, blues and reggae. It recedes when stand-up starts, with only short cues between acts. Open mics, English shows, curated lineups and solo sets rotate on the current calendar.
Exposed brick, dark wood, warm sconces and a small stage with one microphone give the interior a basement-club feel. Street tables on Tellalzade Sokak hold the pre-show crowd. Chairs turn toward the stage for performances; smoking is not allowed inside.
Regular Turkish- and English-language comedy nights organized by TuzBiber in Aylak Kadıköy’s performance space. The venue operates as a bar by day and becomes an unassigned-seat stand-up room at scheduled times.
Alternative-comedy fans, aspiring young comics, international audiences for Turkish and English shows, creative-sector workers, late-night comedy seekers and Aylak’s rock-bar regulars.
Casual clothes fit this relaxed performance bar on Antikacılar Sokağı: jeans, T-shirt, sweater, leather or denim jacket and sneakers. Bring a suitable layer if you may wait at an outside table.
Aylak Kadıköy is a favorite among comedy fans thanks to its near-daily stand-up shows, cozy bar atmosphere, and friendly staff. The layout is well-suited for pre-show drinks, meeting up with friends, and grabbing a bite to eat afterward. However, the lack of comfortable seating is a frequent complaint. There are a few serious reports of foreign visitors being ignored or treated rudely at the door or during service. Cigarette smoke can also be bothersome in winter when the back courtyard is closed off. The program is excellent; it is worth inquiring about table arrangements and ventilation beforehand.
