EDITOR'S REVIEW
On the roof of JW Marriott Istanbul Bosphorus, OCTO is a Karaköy restaurant reinterpreting Turkish cuisine with local and geographically indicated produce. Its terrace overlooking the historic peninsula, signature cocktails and sustainable sourcing make it more than a rooftop bar.
Dinner is accompanied by lounge, soft jazz, ethnic house and light Mediterranean music; later on weekends, melodic house and pop remixes may appear. There is no published regular DJ or concert schedule: music usually stays in the background, with special programs announced separately.
The glass-walled upper floor of historic Veli Alemdar Han has copper-toned lights, an open kitchen and modern bar. The terrace overlooks Karaköy rooftops toward the historic peninsula and Bosphorus entrance, especially striking at sunset.
A rooftop restaurant-bar interpreting regional Turkish produce with modern techniques, sustainably sourced ingredients from local producers and spice-inspired cocktails.
Guests combining Karaköy dining and cocktails with a view, followers of local-ingredient cuisine, and couples or small groups after a sunset terrace table.
Polished smart casual suits the hotel roof: blazers, shirts and considered dresses. Flip-flops, gym shorts and scruffy T-shirts are not a good match.
At OCTO Istanbul, small table lamps create a restrained glow in the dining area. Beyond the windows, an illuminated ship appears opposite these dimly lit tables. White plates are prepared in the kitchen as drinks are finished at the bar. The simple interior makes room for both the kitchen's work and the details of the waterfront outside.
OCTO Istanbul is highly acclaimed for special occasions, thanks to its expansive views of the Bosphorus and the Historical Peninsula from Galataport, its calm yet chic atmosphere, and its professional service. While seafood, Cretan paste (Girit ezmesi), Istanbul salad, lamb, sea bass, and creative signature dishes are frequently praised, the chefs' visits to tables, attention to allergies, and celebratory gestures leave a positive impression. The fact that live music does not interfere with conversation is also seen as an advantage. However, some visitors found the flavor of dishes like ceviche, salmon, tenderloin, or certain main courses ordinary given the fine-dining price point; some also felt the portion-to-price ratio was poor. The general impression is that while service and the view are consistently excellent, the culinary experience can be inconsistent relative to high expectations.

HIGHLIGHTS
JW Marriott service, Michelin Guide-listed cuisine and a roof view framing both the historic peninsula and Bosphorus. Food and scenery complement each other.
NOTE
Terrace use depends on weather; request a view-facing table when booking. Smart casual is a recommendation, not a formal dress requirement, though beachwear should be avoided.
